90+ Things to Do in Liverpool This Week (#002)

The most interesting events in and around Liverpool over the next 7 days...

👋 Big welcome to the 1,000 new folks who joined us since last week! Since it’s Valentine’s week, we’ve got way more events than usual. If it’s too much, hit reply and let me know—should we keep it tighter? More curated?

Before we get to the good stuff, here are a few extra things worth your time:

  • Central Waste Liverpool – Just stumbled on these guys, and they’re out here cleaning up neglected parks for free in their spare time. Follow them on Instagram, they deserve it!

  • Crosby’s Marine FC – The club just dropped plans for a new stadium near Edge Lane, locking in their future for the next 100 years.

  • Stephen Graham in A Thousand Blows – Arguably Liverpool’s best actor (maybe even Britain’s?) plays a ruthless boxer in this new Disney+ show, out Feb 21.

PS. Our monthly giveaway is still open. Fill out the quick subscriber survey to help shape this newsletter and get a shot at winning. Already did it? You’re in. I’ll pick the prize next week, announce the winner the following week.

Now, to the meat and potatoes…

❓ Did You Know?

The Liver Birds atop Liverpool’s Royal Liver Building? Bella and Bertie. Bella watches over the River Mersey, keeping an eye on sailors, while Bertie stares inland, making sure the city behaves.

Their names aren’t official, but some say Bella comes from Isabella of Angoulême, the queen consort of King John, who gave Liverpool its royal charter in 1207. German sculptor Carl Bernard Bartels designed them, and they’ve been perched there since 1911. Each one stands 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall with a 12-foot (3.6-meter) wingspan—way bigger than you’d think.

Want proof? There’s a life-size replica at the Museum of Liverpool. Stand next to it and feel tiny.
