EXHIBITION

Toxteth: The Harlem of Europe is now open at the University of Liverpool’s Victoria Gallery & Museum, celebrating the Black musicians of L8 who helped shape modern British music. Running through April 2026, the exhibition pairs striking portraits by Ean Flanders with the stories of legends like The Real Thing, The Chants, and Distinction—the first Black British female group signed to a major label—capturing both their legacy and the new generation carrying it forward.

THINGS TO DO

River of Light returns to Liverpool’s waterfront from Friday, October 24, so make your plans now. This year’s theme, The Science of Light, turns the city into a glowing playground of art, tech, and nature, with ten large-scale installations stretching across a 3km trail from the Royal Albert Dock to Liverpool ONE.

ART

The dot-art Gallery’s new exhibition In Full Bloom opens this Friday (17 Oct), filling the space with color, emotion, and the poetry of flowers. Featuring works by Frank Leung, Hilary Dron, and Madeleine Pires, the show runs until Nov 29 and celebrates everything from the rhythm of the seasons to the joy of overflowing gardens and the beauty of community-inspired art.

FAMILY FUN

Halloweenville is back at Partridge Lakes (near Warrington), inviting you into a pirate-themed lakeside adventure of sunken ships, skeletal buccaneers, and spooky surprises. Designed as an immersive walk-through experience, it’s packed with eerie lighting, fog, and cinematic sets. Perfect for families, couples, and anyone chasing a dose of Halloween magic. Runs until Sunday 2 November 2025.

THEATRE

The Sleeping Beauty is on the Liverpool Empire from Thursday, October 23 to Saturday, October 25, bringing a fairytale spectacle to the stage. Presented by English National Ballet, this production pairs Tchaikovsky’s lush score with Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s dramatic choreography and opulent staging…a dazzling three-night run you won’t want to miss.
